Duke |
![]() |
He is the happiest lying at my feet. He seems to get along with all the dogs. A great dog for someone who wants or needs a 24/7 companion. Updates will follow. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Duke was fearful at first and didn’t like being placed in a kennel. It only took a few days of milk bone treats to cure his dislike. Also he is always with two senior dogs that live at this foster home, so he is never alone. He has also teamed up with a third resident, a 32 pound Cocker Spaniel. He came from a home that had another dog, a Chocolate Lab, who Duke was very much attached to. Only with one dog has he voiced his negative opinion, a Jack Russell mix that came to this home in recent days and is very hyper. Duke doesn’t appreciate the hopping and skipping about, especially on him! To humans he is an amazingly loving dog. A 34 pound lap dog! And full of kisses! He loves to lounge on the couch. He is completely housebroken. He recently went to a festival and willingly posed as a prisoner in a costume contest! He also marched in a Mutt Strutt parade. He was very good on the leash and accepted all dogs he came in contact with. He met many people there and showed his love to all. Duke is an exceptional dog that will bring many years of companionship to a loving home. |

Lucy |

Lucy was adopted by her former owner who was able to move into another living situation where she could have her sweet girl back with her! We're delighted that even through the shelter's temporary closing, Lucy was safe with second chance pals and available to be reunited with the person who loved most.
Bazinga |
![]() From Anja H. on 9/27 Great News! I called JoAnn today to follow up on how things are going with Bazinga. She said they have absolutely fallen in love with him and want to adopt him! His fracture is healing very nicely she said and he is just the sweetest dog. However, he is really not house trained yet - as soon as JoAnn take Bazinga out of his kennel, he tends to pee before going outside. And, she still wants him. Most of the kennel rest he is having is on her husband's lap (he is in a wheel chair), and the dog is very content to stay there a good part of the day. I will go to the shelter to pick up the paperwork involved in getting this adoption done and take it to PetSmart in Turkey Creek where she works at the Vet's office. She has been bathing Bazinga in a medicated shampoo she got from her office, and the skin condition is so much improved she said. I called the shelter today to see if he has been chipped, and yes he has. I am so thrilled for this little guy, he really deserves some happiness. |

Mary |
![]() |
Mary is a 5 year old Cairn Terrier Mix that is very sweet. She gets along great with all the dogs at this foster house. She is housebroken so she gets extra liberties, like sleeping in the bedroom at the foot of the bed or getting to stay in the house alone. She doesn't get on the furniture and usually picks a nice quiet out of the way spot to lay down. She enjoys the touch of her human and the company of another dog. She is well rounded in all areas socially. She is not use to riding in the car but tolerates it. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||
She likes to go outside and walk around the yard and does well in a kennel situation. She will bark at you with the excitement of you coming home and is always happy to greet you and shows her friendly personality with a wag of her tail. She is hard of hearing and will purposely make eye contact with you and follow hand signals from a distance. Mary has had a benign tumor removed from her left rear leg and her dental work resulted in the loss of eleven teeth. She is doing very well in spite of it all but faces one more surgery at the end of September where a new found mammary tumor will be removed. This little girl offers all the qualities of a great companion. Shown right with her forever mom!! |

Sandy Terrier went to Atlanta rescue |
![]() |
This was an emergency case with two hoarding cases in the same week. Sandy was an owner surrender, the lady had lost her husband and her home, she didn't want to give up the dog, she has raised her since she was 3 weeks old. Liz told me the lady was sobbing and kept hesitating but finally accepted what she had to do. The owner said if her situation changed when she gets a check the 1st of the month she will come back and adopt Sandy back. |

Kirby |

|
Updated 4-19-13: Kirby seems to be growing as he adds to his weight topping out at around 75 pounds. He is an amazing dog. He longs for companionship. He will follow us around the yard while we work as if to supervise our tasks. He walks alongside of the mower while we mow. He gets along with every dog he meets. He lays down in the living room each evening and drifts off to sleep while we watch TV. He sleeps every night on his own blanket on the floor at the foot of our bed. He will visit by sitting in front of you and reaching out with his paw to you. His kisses are direct and meaningful. Kirby will also get into the car and ride along quietly. He is housebroken and fully trustworthy in the house alone. He is just a very calm and gentle companion dog looking for his companion. Found! Kirby's forever home. He looks sooooo happy! Thanks Esther for loving and fostering this special boy so that he could find his people. |

![]() Update 5.4.13: At right, Bella with her new owners, looking as happy and secure as she's ever looked. |
Update 4.15.13: scp found a new foster situation for Bella where she has more room to roam and be at home. In her previous foster home, she had issues digging under and jumping over a fenced in area. Bella's new foster report is that she is a sweet easy going, docile pet. Is not a barker and loves lots of pets, easy feeding, walks well with other dogs and does not run away.![]() |
Peekaboo |
![]() After a couple of weeks in her new foster home with Rose U., Peekaboo is feeling more confident and happy. The photo at right was taken after she had a haircut and additional vet care. A very sweet girl . . . Update 3.27.13 by Sindy W. who kept Peekaboo while her foster mom was on vacation: Peekaboo is wonderful, she is a senior dog but still frisky. She "runs" with the pack, well more like a slow walk, but she goes everywhere. Uses the doggie door like a pro, is totally non aggresive, loves her ears being rubbed, is affectionate and loving. She needs a home with a slow pace, though she enjoys being both walked and car rides. She was nervous at first but after just a couple days she is totally at ease in her surroundings. I was very pleased to see her adapt to her place in my pack of dogs. I have puppy sat her a couple times for a few weeks and she is a delight to have around. Her one eye does not stop her from doing and going anywhere, she has many years of loyalty and love left to give. |

Update 4.30.13: Lucy has been chosen to go into New York rescue tomorrow! We're so happy for her.
Skippy |
![]() |
![]() |
Skippy is a sociable and happy little guy, who gets along well with other dogs, cats and kids. His previous owner had to surrender him but that didn’t stop Skippy from continuing on. He has settled in to home life in his foster home and continues to amaze us with virtues like loyalty and trustworthiness. Skippy is happy to jump into the car and go on either a short or long trip. He is also content with settling down on the couch while you are gone and will greet you at the door on your return. He has overcome his fear of windshield wipers but still stays clear of the vacuum cleaner. Skippy has an ear for music and will quickly join in for a song or two. Skippy walks well on a leash and will come to you when called. He will also engage in a game of fetch from time to time. He would like nothing more than to be a companion to someone—no age discrimination! He loves kids and showed this at a recent adoptathon where he sat with a young girl showing her affection by kissing her. You won’t be disappointed if you decide to meet this friendly and loving fellow! |
|
Skippy is a 5+ year old Beagle/Mix. He is up to date on all of his shots. He is neutered and housebroken. He has had his teeth cleaned and is considered a very healthy boy by the veterinarian. If you would like to meet Skippy call the Monroe County Animal Shelter at 423-442-1015 to make an appointment. He is currently in a foster home. |
