Success Stories 2019
Working since 2005 with second chance pals, we would like to thank each of our small group of dedicated fosterers and supporters, who have given their heartfelt love, time and financial support so this program can go forward. To see heartwarming success stories for our previous years ... go to:At this time, our goal of calling attention to the plight of adult animals in our shelter is being realized. As Pets for Patriots comes on board, our own Rolling Rescue and additional rescue sources, we are heartened that older companion animals are becoming more valued and are being adopted. Since there are now
a variety of ways that second chance pals will be finding their forever homes, we reserve success stories from here on out for those animals who are either scp specific or have unusual or difficult adoption stories we can highlight. The photos do not include all adult animals rescued . . .
Please keep our adult shelter animals in mind when adding to your household members! Updated 12/04/2019:

12/04/19: Sable is settled in her forever home.
11/14/19: Sable is all snug in her new foster home. 11/07/19: Sable is a 10 year old Chi that has a heart murmur 4/6 and mammory tumors. She also has an internal mass and an area in her jaw. She is super sweet and happy. The area in her jaw could be fixed, but with her heart murmur and age and the fact that it doesn't bother her, it was decided it's best to leave it alone. She is a really sweet little thing whose owner passed away and family didn't want her so they surrendered her to the shelter. We want to find a foster, a hospice foster for her, so she can live out the rest of her life in comfort. |

12/03/19: Conner has been adopted by his foster mom!
9/17/19: Conner has gone home with a new foster to rest & heal. 9/9/19: Conner is a 7 pound, Black and Tan Chihuahua. He came in as a stray and nobody has called about him. He was most likely hit by a car, but may also have been in some kind of altercation; he has bilateral fractures of his pelvis, a laceration and possible rupture of his eye. He is having his eye removed and being neutered. He will do a month of crate rest for his pelvis. It would be fantastic if we could find a foster for this little guy. He is super sweet - especially considering the pain he must be in. He will need to eat soft/canned food for the next month as well while he heals. |

10/28/19: Poof is a sweet, 10 year old Poodle that was an owner turn-in. He needs a dental and had a blood panel done which shows some elevated numbers. So he is scheduled to go for a Cushings test on Wednesday. Once that is completed, then we'll go from there on dental, etc. Poof has been trained to use a potty-pad indoors but will go outside with company. |

10/2/19: Lady & Lucky are 6 year old Chi mixes that came in together. Their owner is ill and can no longer care for these little sweeties. They're bonded and need to be adopted together ... in fact, Lucky cries when Lady goes out for a walk without him; they've probably been together all of their lives. |

10/18/19: Sweet Copper has found his forever home!
9/21/19: There has been some question about whether or not Copper is really deaf: "Yes ... he is." It took us a little while to realize it, but if he's not looking at you, he doesn't respond. When I need him to come to me, I just tap him on the back somewhere (or tap my foot on the floor), he looks up at me & I motion for him to come with me. He's been super good about the new routine. Since he doesn't move very fast, he's never far away, so this works out well. One of the requirements for anyone wanting to adopt him is that they be strong enough to pick him up when they're sitting down. He can't jump up on chairs & needs assistance ... he lives for those cuddles on a chair with his people! 7/12/19: Copper's previous owner must have been a woman as he's completely attached to his foster mom ... follows her all over the house and calls for her when he can't find her. He's a great little dog, very affectionate. He likes his foster dad, but mostly when mom's not around. He seems to be mostly house-trained and prefers to be taken outside with us; he'd do well in a fenced yard.. He doesn't play with the other dogs, but does fine with them as long as they don't bother him. He has a cataract in one eye and is deaf ... but gets along well, in & out of the house. Usually he just walks around, but when motivated, speeds up with the cutest little "Charlie-Chaplin" bouncy trot. 6/19/19: Copper has now been groomed, has completed his medical workup (blood work was great) and has finished his dental. He's a sweet boy and loves to cuddle on the sofa with us along with the other dogs. 6/14/19: Copper is now in a foster home and doing well. He's lined up for some medical work and needs a dental. He's doing well, living with other dogs (big & small). He should not be around cats. 6/4/19: Copper came into the shelter in need of a home and medical attention. His owner became ill and was no longer able to care for him. He desperately needs a foster home so he can settle into a normal "doggie" lifestyle and get the love he deserves. More to follow as we get to know Cooper. |

8/22/19: Rosco had his dental done today; no teeth were pulled but he did have some infected gums and really needed the cleaning and has been put on antibiotics. 8/3/19: Roscoe has now been groomed and had his ear infection treated. He's settling in nicely in his foster home. 8/1/19: Roscoe is a 14 year old Cocker Spaniel that was released to the shelter by his owner who is ill and going into a nursing home. Roscoe is in good health except for an ear infection and will be vet-checked Friday (8/2). He has a foster home. We'll post new pictures of Roscoe after he's groomed. |

8/1/19: Mary & Stewie have been adopted by the same family that also took Tillie home ... they're doing well.
7/8/19: Mary showed signs of “defrosting” (for want of a better word) Sat night….she let me pet her head and then scratch her head and she rubbed right into the scratching’s. And then she started washing my hand-she’s a “licker.” Then she let me pet her whole body including her tail….and then I coaxed her with words to come out from under the covers…and she did….she jumped off of the bed and went to the dry food bowl….ate a few pieces and then walked back to the bed and under the covers again. Sunday morning was the same with the petting but she didn’t come out from under the covers this time….baby steps…. and she is moving forward I didn’t realize until Sat night that she is a small cat…smaller than Stewie….and a shorter tail than his…..but just as sweet as he is….just not very confident. This is good progress for her….9 days! 5/28/19: ***Mary and Stewie BONDED SIBLINGS*** Please call the shelter at 423-442-1015 to arrange a meet & greet or email if you are interested or have any questions 1catnut@gmail.com

Hospital. She is now on Lasix and a drug that makes the heart contract stronger and she is a new and expensive dog. She feels so good, has bonded with me. I am very
thankful to have been able to give her a while longer of quality life. It makes me feel good too."
9/17/19: Baby has been adopted! 9/11/19: Baby is a 13 year old Chihuahua whose elderly owner can no longer care for her, so she has been released to SCP. She's a very sweet lap-dog, loves to be held and needs a foster home. More about Baby as we get to know her. |

8/10/19: Jack's "Foster To Adopt" contract is done and he is with his new Mom.
Jack is one lucky dog. His new Mom thiufht her sports coup would be too small,
so she bought a 2nd/larger car so he could travel everywhere with her. Jack has a small collection
of toys, treats, crates, beds. As she was taking him for their first offical walk, I snuck off
so they could bond. Jack will be well loved in his new home.
7/23/19: Jack is a 9 year old Dachshund ... he's an owner-release that ended up going through multiple homes before he finally landed at the shelter. By then, this poor little boy was stressed out and sick. He's now in a foster-to-adopt home, recovering, but won't be available for adoption until we're sure he's healthy again. |

SCP sponsors all costs associated with fostering our pets. 7/16/19: Willie is a sweet boy once he gets to know you, but he's very cautious before that and can be a little nippy if you move to fast. He has a foster home lined up so we'll know more about hm sooon. |

![]() 7/26/19 ![]() 7/23/19 |
8/3/19: Hannah has been adopted.
7/29/19: Hannah went to the vet this morning and they put her age closer to 11 years old (rather than 8 years). Also, he pegged her heart murmur at 6, which is the max, which puts her at a risk with surgery. Hannah also has a terrible infection in her mouth and they put her on antibiotics. They will target her teeth before spaying.... both are scheduled but the dental will come first. Her fecal test came back negative, so her bloody stools have been contributed to stress, so as she settles in at my house that should mend itself. 7/26/19: Hannah now has a foster home: Upon arrival we went straight outside, she must have been ready to burst, she used the bathroom more than once. I have 4 dogs, all are very good foster brothers; they were all tails-a-wagging at her. I let her explore the yard till she was ready to come in, she was a little frightened, but quickly calmed down....never tried to nip me or my dogs. Hannah gave herself a bath and decided to take a relaxing nap on a fuzzy blanket. More on her house manners in a few days, until then I will try to fatten her up. She has her first vet appointment Monday. 7/23/19: Hannah is an 8 year old Chihuahua. She needs a foster home; so more on Hannah as we get to know her. |

7/27/19: Abbie with her new Dad: Who knew. All it took was a tennis ball on the floor (in the PetSmart training room) for Abbie and her new Dad to become instant best friends. Abbie is on her way to Nashville.
7/15/19: Abbie has an adopter! She went for her initial medical exam today at MCAH. The vet thought Abbie was younger than 10 - maybe between 5 - 7 (no way of really knowing without her prior history). She is scheduled to be spayed and a dental done, next Monday. I will meet her adopter in Chattanooga the following Saturday. 7/13/19: From Abbie's foster mom: Abbie is super sweet. Since she lived with 2 other smaller dogs, I would say she is good with dogs. She has done a little hiding in my house, but is getting braver. Part of that has to do with my 2 younger doxies. My male is strong and always in a play mode. He overpowers her sometimes trying to get her to play. My female is gentle, unless she's queen of the toys. She and Abbie got into a fight the other day over a toy and Amber nailed Abbie. Abbie hid under the bed for a day. But Abbie's out with the dogs again. You will often find Abbie buried under a blanket. She likes to find cozy places to cuddle. She is very active for 10. She understands "Let's go potty" and races to the door. I put her on a leash since I have no fence. She loves to go for walks. I do not know if she had a fence yard before. But I think she would love a fenced yard - she enjoys being outdoors. She seems to be house trained - pees and poops as soon as her feet touch the grass. She did a little stress peeing when I first brought her home, but that pretty much has stopped. 7/11/19: Abbie is in a foster home. We'll add more as we get to know her. |

7/3/19-Upate Delilah and Allie:
Note from Foster Mom: "I couldn't be more thrilled with the progress Allie and Delilah have made in their new home with their new Mom. She has allowed the girls to decompress from another stressful move at their own pace. This is SO critical when bringing a new pet home cat OR dog. FOSTERING does help make animals adoptable and saves lives."
5/28/19: ***Delilah and Allie BONDED MOTHER AND DAUGHTER***
Please call the shelter at 423-442-1015 to arrange a meet & greet or ... email the foster home at 1catnut@gmail.com
****ADOPTION FEES ARE SPONSORED***
Delilah and Allie (INDOOR Only) were pretty nervous in the shelter - they had lost their human and their home and now they were no longer "free roaming" in a house - their world was upside down. None of us like "world-rocking" change ... they are now doing GREAT in a foster home. DE-Lilah is DE-Lightful!...she greets people and is a "flopper cat" when you start to pet her ... and then her purr motor kicks in ... Allie is a bit shy but it only took a short time back in a home for her to relax and enjoy human contact again. She is a bit more reserved than her mom and enjoys her "power nap" time. She is more active, playful and affectionate in the mornings and evenings. At power nap time they both like to sleep in their "cave" made up of pillows and a blanket over the top and sides, it's nice & warm in there and cats love warmth. ... be sure to reach in often and pet them -they love it! The girls need a quiet household with stability to feel comfortable again. Both girls know their names We recommend a home with no young children (kids move a bit faster than the girls are used to). Delilah and Allie are very clean princesses and they (as all cats) do require clean litter boxes.
"Cat Rule of Thumb" ... At least one litter box per cat (preferably, 1 more than the number of cats) and should be scooped twice per day for all cats. Some cats will not use a dirty litter box - just a cat fact. They do need high-sided litter boxes.
They currently have dry food left out for them 24/7 (Purina One Tender Selects CHICKEN). They each get 1-2 tablespoons of canned food twice per day (Friskies Pate flavors). They are now enjoying canned food and it does help keep their system working well. They get the canned food at approximately 6am and 6pm.

2/16/19: Dobbie found her very own home today and has a new doggie companion. She was excited to get a new family.
1/14/19: Dobbie had a sleep-over with a friend before she went on to be filmed ... "Just wanted to let you know that Dobbie is doing well. My young male doxie is a play machine and he and Dobbie are chasing each other all over the house. Dobbie is very sweet. The filming event supported MCFA & SCP adoptions. Click HERE to watch. 10/15/18: Dobbie continues to do well. She's a talker, when she wants something ... food, in, out, attention ... whatever ... she'll tell us about it until we figure out what she wants. She's enthusiastic about her food, which is good and it has helped her fur come back beautifully from the attack of fleas. She hangs out with our Dachshund, plays with the other smaller male dogs, but pretty much ignores the larger dogs. 10/03/18: Dobbie is an 11 year old Dachshund mix (26 pounds) that is now in a foster home, living with other dogs and a cat. She gets along well with everyone - the cat curls up with her on the sofa at night while we all watch TV together. She curls up quietly with us at night to sleep. She's house-trained and asks to go out politely by standing at the door and when ready to come back in, will scratch lightly; if you don't hear her, she'll bark. Dobbie had a flea problem when she first arrived and although she no longer has fleas, she had an allergy to them and lost some of her hair on the back. It's now growing back and she's looking better everyday ... she'll need to be kept on a good flea-prevention program to keep this from happening again. At some point, one of Dobbie's rear legs was broken and not set. It healed poorly and is at risk of breaking again; that said, she runs around the yard without problems, just shouldn't rough-house. Dobbie is a sweetheart of a little girl and puppy-like in her personality. We're working on pulling with the leash and she likes to jump when she greets you. Please call to meet this little girl. |
